In recent years, Walmart Academies have focused on training our associates to be successful in their jobs and improve their skills for the future. We have always known that our academies can have a positive impact beyond our walls and help the communities we serve. With that in mind, today we are announcing Community Academy, a free program that leverages our network of over 200 Walmart Academies in stores across the country to provide educational opportunities for all members of the community, associates and otherwise. .
Community Academy started with a question: how can we help? With so many communities in economic difficulty and education sometimes beyond reach, we have recognized a need that we are particularly able to fill. Our goal is to help people invest in themselves, increase upward mobility and thereby create fundamentally stronger communities.
Community Academy virtual courses are now available free nationwide, and recording is open to everyone. Course topics include everything from resume writing and interview skills to budget and finance, to preparing for standardized tests and navigating college admissions. Each of our courses is grouped under one of five general themes – Community, Personal Finance, Home, Career Development, and Technology – and we will be expanding our offerings throughout the year.
In developing our community program, we relied on Walmart’s own subject matter experts and worked with industry leaders to ensure our content is best in class. All community classes will be taught by our Walmart Academy Facilitators, true learning professionals who have guided our in-store associates through over two million Academy training sessions on topics ranging from in-store process to leadership and soft skills.
At Walmart, we believe in opportunities – developing your skills, building a career, and achieving something more. Community Academy represents our belief in this opportunity, and we are proud to begin serving our communities in this new way.
